President Mills death shocks resident of Aflao and Lome

The news about the death of Professor John Evans Atta Mills was met with disbelief and shock not only by Aflao residents but also in parts of Lome in the Republic of Togo.

A visit by the GNA after the news, found business activities almost at a standstill as people apparently passed on the information and were discussing it in small groups at the frontier, bus terminals and the Aflao Market.

Also at the frontier, Ghanaian security personnel discussed the news allowing travelers to pass without any hindrance.

Many residents who called in to local radio stations openly cried out and wondered why the President should die at this time and expressed apprehension as what was left in stock for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the elections draw near.

Mr. Olugbeye Okafor, a Nigerian resident in Lome, told the GNA that Prof. Mills was one African President he so much cherished because of his peaceful disposition and that it was sad he had to pass on suddenly and appealed to Ghanaians to emulate him.

Mr. Ben-bellah Haligah, NDC Ketu South Secretary, told the GNA that the party has been saddened with the news which no doubt would be disturbing to the activities of the party but said with a heavy heart, they would no doubt hold themselves together to fight on in honour of the departed President.**
