Preserve Ghana’s enviable status – Veep charges military

Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has charged the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to jealously guard the country’s enviable status as a peaceful nation.

“It is the strength of the Armed Forces that keeps the peace of this country,” Vice President Amissah-Arthur emphasized on Friday, August 09, 2013 when he joined the Ghana Armed Forces’ Command and Staff College for the Course 34 graduation ceremony held in Accra.

He disclosed that government is committed to resourcing the Forces to discharge their duties efficiently and effectively.

“Government of Ghana is committed to making the Armed Forces more effective and efficient by providing the modern equipment that will enable them discharge their functions specified for them in the constitution,” the vice president said.

He commended GAF for its pivotal role in maintaining peace in several parts of the world, saying: “The professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces in peacekeeping missions has made Ghana a household name in many countries and it is important we continue to preserve this enviable status.”

He called on all to maintain the peace currently being enjoyed.

“In many parts of the world, conflict is unavoidable and that most likely the Ghana Armed Forces may be called upon. No conflict nation has been able to resolve conflicts by itself,” Vice President Amissah-Arthur observed.

In all, 66 officers graduated. Forty-one are Ghanaians while the rest are from various African countries including South Africa and Sudan.

The Chief of Staff Trophy went to Major S.A Arhin while the Best Air Force student was awarded to Squadron Leader E. Anaman.
