Presbyterian Church launches green revolution

The Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has launched the ‘Greening of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana premises’ within the Presbytery.

Under the programme, trees will be planted around all the properties of the church including, chapels, schools, offices, manses and other institutions in the 26 pastoral districts of the Presbytery.

This was announced by Reverend Dr Seth Kissi, the Chairperson of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery at the 33rd annual three days conference of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery Bible Study and Prayer Group at Osiem in Abuakwa North District of the Eastern Region.

The conference coincided with the annual Men’s Sunday of the Church.

He explained that the trees when planted would serve as windbreak against wind storms, provide shade, improve oxygen in the air we breathe and make the atmosphere less warm.

Rev Dr Kissi called on Parliament to modify the existing law which criminalizes suicide in the light of recent revelations that people with suicide tendencies suffer from depression.

He proposed that the law should rather make psychiatric health care mandatory and free for people with suicide tendencies and the churches should support such persons.

In a welcome address, Mr Emmanuel Oduro Asenso, the Presbytery President, called on the district executives of the church to organize leadership training for members of their congregation.

He urged each district of the Presbytery to plant at least one church by the end of the year and encourage members to intensify the house to house evangelism.

An appeal for funds yielded over GHS3,000.00 in aid of instruments for the evangelism work of the group in the presbytery.
