Pope John Students donate to AIDS Centre

Final year students of the Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary, on Thursday donated assorted items and cash to the Mathew 25 House, an HIV AIDS Care centre in Koforidua for the upkeep of the inmates.

The items included clothing, footwear, detergents, provisions and toiletries at a cost of GH¢ 600 and a cash of GH¢ 300, realized from a spiritual programme of fasting and Prayers by the final year students.

According to the School Chaplain, Father Jerry Manomey, the students embarked on the fasting and prayer programme to ask for God’s favour during their examination and in the process, donated all the money they would have used for food into the donation.

Monsignor Bobby Benson, Director of the House, who received the donation, said the centre was opened to persons affected by the disease and their children and would provide accommodation, food, medication and educational needs for their children.

He said the centre, apart from caring for people who had been affected by the disease, was currently caring for over 90 orphans and vulnerable children whose parents had become weak or died from HIV and AIDS.

Monsignor Benson thanked the students for “such a Godly initiative to stretch a hand to the needy” and hoped that they would grow with such mindset for the betterment of the larger society.**
