Polytechnic teachers are up in arms with Fair Wages Commission

Koforidua, Aug. 25, GNA - The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAC) says the government, through the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), has failed or refused to negotiate on their condition of service that expired in 2008.

A statement issued in Koforidua and signed jointly by Mr G.K. Abledu, National President and Mr Anthony Ayakwah, General Secretary, said owing to that a press conference was held to bring government's attention to it.

"In addition, the lackadaisical attitude of the FWSC in explaining the placement of the polytechnic staff on the Single Spine Salary Structure has generated a lot of tension and speculations in the polytechnics, a situation which is unacceptable".

The statement said numerous correspondences to the FWSC, copied to the Labour Commission and other relevant ministries, coupled with other behind the scene consultations had fallen on deaf ears.

"It even sad to note that acknowledgements of these correspondences have not been received, let alone addressing the issues" the statement added.

The statement said agitations were being heightened and the Secretariat could no longer hold the pressure.

It had therefore given the government up to September 01 to respond positively to the call and immediately invite POTAG to the negotiation table before the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure.
