Police warn against setting of bush fire

Winneba, Jan. 25, GNA - The Winneba District Police Command has warned farmers, hunters and smokers to desist from setting bush fires indiscriminately because anybody caught would be made to face the law. Assistant Superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye, the District Police Commander, told the GNA in an interview that the area was prone to fire because of the nature of its vegetation and urged the people to be careful when handling fire.

He appealed to chiefs and people in the area to report to the police those who travelled to the area for group hunting. Trees planted by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) along the Winneba Junction/Apam road after the construction of the road are not doing well due to frequent destruction by bush fire. An official of ADRA told the GNA that drivers are also destroying the trees because they cut the branches and use them as signals when their vehicles break down.
