Residents of Kumasi-Nhyiaeso, in the Ashanti region, have expressed worry at the trend of police posts in the area, now serving as hideouts for criminals.

Over thirty-five (35) police posts which were built by the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Kofi Boakye with the aim of combating crime in the Nhiayeso Constituency have been abandoned.

Weeds have taken over the abandoned police posts in the area.

Whilst the facility sits there empty, the people of Nhiayeso and its environs are living in fear as these structures which have served as a residence for some criminals have heightened criminal activities in the area.

According to Pure FM's Osei Kwadwo (Ambassador) who visited the area, no police officer has been posted to the police post after the transfer of the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Kofi Boakye.

The residents in expressing their grievances told Pure Fm's Osei Kwadwo, they worry for the safety of their children and family and called on the Police and government to come to their aid.

“We have lost properties and valuable items worth thousands of cedis to robbers who often attack us from these hideouts in our homes at nights and on our way home from work. The security situation has worsened in this Constituency after the police officers left the police post.” A section of the residents said.

It would be recalled that two Canadians ladies and one Indian man were kidnapped by some suspected kidnappers in the Nhyiaeso Constituency not too long ago.

Chairman of the Nhyiaeso Sub-Metro James Nana Prempeh expressed worry about the poor security in the Constituency and pleaded for assistance from the authorities of the city.

According to him, the availability of police personnel could help curb crime and robbery rate in the area.

“It is so pathetic that robbers are tormenting the lives of people in this Constituency while over 35 police post have been left to rot. We have complained bitterly about the situation to the Ashanti regional Police Command but we are yet to receive feedback.

I want to take this opportunity to reiterate and appeal to Pure Fm to help us get good results from the Ashanti Regional Police Command. I strongly believe that with the support of Pure Fm, the City authorities and Regional Police Command will listen to our cry and operationalize these abandoned Police posts.”
