Police pensioners not happy with Govt

Breman Asikuma (C/R), April 26, GNA - Retired Police personnel are not happy with Government decision in granting pension pay to reflect 50% minimum point to corresponding ranks to personnel in active service.

Mr Abraham B. Eduah, the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District retired police personnel chairman, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said, in 2003, the Chief Treasurer officer in charge of pension payment instructed in a letter with reference No.2848/PPC/Vol.67, that all pensioners should submit their pension photo copies ID cards and advices to effect payments of their benefits as stated in the letter. "It is regrettable to say, pensioners in all departments and other sections like Fire Service, Ghana Education Services and the Prison Service have been paid, with the exception of the police retired officers".

Mr Eduah reiterated that, investigations made at the pension pay section revealed that, the Police Administration up to date has failed or refused to submit salary levels of retired personnel to the Controller and Accountant Generals Department for the implementation of the adjustment.

He added that, they wished to know why the police administration were not willing to let them enjoy their benefits due them, as other retired service personnel and called on the government to come to their aid in this regard.
