The Western Central Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a murder case at Mahamo Village near Benso in the Western Central Region.
According to a press statement signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Regional Police Command in Tarkwa, the incident occurred on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at about 10:20 AM.
The statement said some committee members of Mahamo Village arrested and brought a suspect, John Asiedu, aged 32, to the Benso Police Station with blood stains on him, following a report of causing unlawful harm to a victim who later died.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a misunderstanding ensued between the suspect and his wife, Gifty Yoke.
During the altercation, the deceased, who lives close to the couple, intervened in an attempt to separate them.
Police say the suspect, displeased with the intervention, later went to the deceased’s residence armed with a piece of wood and inflicted multiple injuries to the left side of the deceased’s head.
The victim was rushed to Mahamo Clinic, where he was treated and discharged.
However, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, his condition reportedly deteriorated, and he was rushed back to the clinic for further medical attention.
He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The body of the deceased has been conveyed to the Apinto Government Hospital Mortuary in Tarkwa for preservation and autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to contact the family of the deceased.
The suspect, John Asiedu, is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
The Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and further updates will be communicated.
