A 26-year-old man, allegedly shot in the thigh by police in Asante Agogo, is to have his leg amputated.

The victim has been transferred to the Koforidua Government Hospital from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where doctors spent the whole of Wednesday stabilising his condition.

Nurses at KATH confirmed they were treating Kofi Asadu for gunshot wounds.

Class News learnt that the police shot Asadu while chasing him. However, Agogo District Police Commander, ASP Asamoah Agyekum, has denied the alleged shooting incident.

Speaking to Class News, he said “there has not been any gunshot at Agogo.”

ASP Agyekum said Asadu was being pursued for arrest when he scaled a wall and fractured his right leg.

In his opinion, the gunshot allegation is a cooked up story to conceal what really happened.

“There is no way that as a policeman a gun will be fired and I will have to cover it because definitely investigations will show that a weapon has been fired,” he added.
