Police Clamp down on "Goro Boys"

The rapid deployment force (RDF), a detachment of the Ghana Police service, has begun a special exercise to flush out from the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), unofficial porters notoriously called ?goro boys? whose activities have become a matter of concern for the airport authorities.

In its first operation at the airport on Tuesday night, the RDF arrested five people for harassing travellers.

ASP Patrick Kwapong, leader of the detachment, said the five would be arraigned before court soon. According to him, the exercise would continue to rid the airport of all undesirable elements and make it comfortable for travellers.

In a related development, Eric T. Noi, public affairs manager of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, disclosed that a close-circuit television CCTV is to be mounted at the KIA to monitor the movement and activities of errant officials and the general public.
