Place private schools under capitation grant - Appiah

Mr Frederick Appiah, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Co-ordinator at Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam in Central Region, has called on government to consider placing all private schools under the capitation grant.

He said it is important to supply all schools with free exercise books as well as children in both the private and public schools.

Mr Appiah said this when delivering the keynote address at a graduation ceremony of High Brains Preparatory School.

The theme for the occasion was: “Peace and role of the private schools in national building”.

Mr Appiah called on parents and guardians to help support the School to develop because government alone cannot absorb the needs of all the children.

Speaking at the programme Mr Edward G. Wilson, the Proprietor of the School, said challenges facing the school include construction of permanent classrooms and the provision of teaching and learning materials.

The proprietor appealed to the District Chief Executive for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, in the Central Region, Peter Light Koomson, to help construct street ramps on the Bisease to Brofoyedor road to check over speeding around the school’s premises.

He appealed to government to consider posting national service personnel to teach in the private schools nationwide.

Mr Wilson said the High Brains Senior High School started with 6 students and now has 276 students, adding that, the third batch of final year students, numbering 28, took part in this year’s West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) conducted recently.

Nana Sekyi Appiah, the chairman for the occasion, advised parents and guardians to do their best to support the education of their wards, as education was the best legacy one can bequeath to his children.

He promised to cater for the needs of two brilliant but needy students to the final year.

Mr Appiah, who is also an aspiring Assembly member for Osandze-Bantoma and Head of “Prince George’s School Complex at Kasoa, assured the proprietor of his preparedness to provide the new school building with roofing sheets and a set of football jerseys.
