Pill contraceptive protects women against cancer

Research has proved that the use of pill contraceptive protects women against some types of cancers like breast and cervical cancers, Mrs Philomena Mireku, Senior Nursing Officer of the Family Planning Unit of the Koforidua Regional Hospital has said.

She was speaking at a lecture on the advantages and disadvantages of birth control organised by the Koforidua Branch of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG).

Mrs Mireku denied that some of the short and long term temporary family planning methods like the injectables were the causes of fibroid in women.

''As at now modern science had not been able to come out with the causes of fibroid and so it will be out of place for anybody to wrongly speculate that some family planning methods are the causes of fibroid.''

Mrs Mireku said many people in the New Juaben Municipality had accepted permanent birth control methods and had undergone vasectomy.
