Petroleum ladies donates to foster home

The Tema Chapter of the Petroleum Ladies Association (PELA) at weekend donated assorted items worth GH? 5, 000.00 to the Arm of the Lord’s Foster Care Home and school in Teshie Nungua, a suburb of Accra.

The items included, shoes, boxes of indomie, boxes of biscuits, five bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, exercise books and other learning materials.

The rest were detergents, camel antiseptics, bundles of toilet rolls, chocolem, tubers of yam, drinks, tin tomatoes, cartons of milk, as well as a bail of used clothing costing GH? 800.00.

In addition to the item, PELA also presented a cheque of GH? 1,000.00 on behalf of BAJ Freight Limited a company in Tema to the officials of the home to help in the management of the facility.

Ms Doe Agbolosoo-Mensah, President of PELA, a ladies group of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, who made the presentation, said it was part of their social responsibilities to respond to the needs of the less privileged in society.

She said every year, during the anniversary of PELA, the ladies undergo such donation exercise and this year for the first time they thought it right to reach out to the Arm of the Lord’s Foster care home as a way of engaging and spending quality time with the children.

She said in all, PELA raised GH? 14,000.00 and used GH? 5, 000.00 for the purchasing of the items with the remaining GH? 9,000.00 going to be used towards the refurbishment of the school of the home.

“During our 21st anniversary, we heard about this orphanage and we are here today not only to donate but to help in the upgrading of the school it runs,” she said.

Ms Agbolooso-Mensah however pledged PELA’s commitment and support towards the running of the institution.

Madam Evelyn Ansah Appiah, Founder, Arm of the Lord’s Foster Care Home, receiving the items, thanked PELA for their support and appealed to other benevolent organizations to emulate their kind gesture especially when the institution lives at the mercy of donations and lacked better support to compliment their efforts in making the dreams of the children under their care worthwhile.
