People with disability demand five per cent quarterly allowance

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Dec 29, GNA - People with disability in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District are demanding their share of five per cent District Assembly Common Fund without further delay.

At a press conference organized at Breman Asikuma last Tuesday by the Federation of Ghana Disabled Association, the members accused the Member of Parliament Mr Paul C. Appiah Ofori, the District Chief Executive Mr Adjei Domson, and the District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Peter Antwi Boasiko of denying them their allowances.

Mr Samuel Ntiamoah Manful, the Vice President of the association, said that when they went to the district assembly, the DCE and the District Co-ordinating Director said that if their allowance for the quarter ending December were disbursed they would spend it lavishly during the Christmas festivities.

They said in May 2006, the assembly disbursed only 25 million cedis being that of 2005 instead of 60 million cedis. He said a letter from the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment dated October 10, 2006 directed that five per cent of District Assembly Common Fund be earmarked. 29 Dec 06
