Peace Ambassador leads pupils to clean market

Angela Mensah, the National Peace Ambassador, has organised basic school pupils in the Dome East and West Electoral area of the Greater Accra Region to undertake clean up exercise.

The exercise which was held at the Dome market was under the auspices of Give Ghana Peace (GGP), a non- governmental organisation (NGO) in Accra.

On the theme: "Clean environment, peaceful mind," the clean up exercise brought together 500 pupils who cleaned the market premises, as well as desilting gutters.

Angela Mensah said the exercise was held in commemoration of the National Sanitation Day and commended GGP for sponsoring it.

She said a child has a fundamental right to live, to education and to good health which could however elude the child due to poor sanitation.

She said a clean environment which is free from diseases and injuries would ensure that the child, parents, and every person in the community has a peaceful mind to go about their daily schedules.

The Peace Ambassador indicated that the clean up exercise symbolised children's commitment to ensure good health.

She appealed to other pupils to practise cleanliness and personal hygiene to avoid sickness.

Mr Phillip Kumi, Communications Director of GGP, said the NGO decided to sponsor the Peace Ambassador in her activities because the organisation seeks the welfare of children.

He urged all to cultivate good sanitation habit by avoiding loitering the environment.

When the pupils were cleaning the market, the traders who did not take part in the exercise disrupted the exercise by chasing for space to sell their wares.

Mr Kumi has therefore appealed to the Ga East Municipal Chief Executive to ensure that the National Sanitation Day is always adhered to by all including the traders.
