Pastor calls for upholding of freedom of expression.

Osiem, Nov. 13, GNA - Rt. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has said despite the encouraging level of democratic practices in the nation, many people are still being hurt and denied their freedom of expression due to attack on people on the air waves. He appealed to people to be mindful of their utterances and urged the church to preach reconciliation and peace.

In a sermon at the elevation of Osiem Presbyterian Church congregation to a district status at Osiem on Sunday, Rt. Rev Frimpong-Manso expressed regret about the increasing rate of corruption and social vices in the country.

He mentioned the cocaine saga, the many rape cases, road accidents, domestic violence and misappropriation of funds as evidence of the corrupt nature of the society.

Rt Rev Frimpong-Manso said the negative tendencies in the society were a wake up call on the church and all well-meaning individuals of the need to share and abide by the gospel of Christ. He said the task of the church in affecting the society was still high because most of the perpetrators of wrongdoings in the society profess to be Christians.

Rt. Rev. Frimpong-Manso called on the new Osiem District of the Presbyterian Church to go into viable ventures to establishment a sound financial base for the district. He said the days of relying solely on tithes and offertory from members of the congregations were gone and stressed the need to develop pragmatic ways of generating funds for the development of infrastructure, evangelism and social services of the church. The chief of Osiem, Nana Kwaku Poku III, urged the church to use the 60-acre land that the traditional authorities gave them to build a senior secondary school or a vocational training centre. He said the existing basic schools owned by the church in the area were not enough and urged the church to build more schools.
