Past leaders commended for their role in building democracy

Akuma (B/A), March 8, GNA- An Assembly Member in Nkoranza District has lauded the country's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and other past leaders for their fighting spirit against colonial rule. He has therefore urged the youth to emulate them for accelerated national development.

Mr. Ahmed Gyabaa, Assembly Member for Akuma urged the youth to be patriotic so that they could contribute meaningfully to the development of the area.

He was addressing more than 200 students at Akuma who marched through the principal streets of the town to commemorate the 47th anniversary celebration of Ghana's independence.

Mr. Gyabaa advised parents to invest in the education of their children so they could become responsible adults.

Ms Faustina Effah Serwaa, FAWE local contact person, reiterated the call on parents to send their daughters to school, "since women can equally do what men can do".

She advised schoolgirls and students to get away from bad peer groups who could lead them into social vices.

Nana Tweneboah Kodua, regent of the town who presided, commended teachers in the area for the smooth organization of the celebration.
