Passion for Needy assists Ashaiman flood victims

Ashaiman, July 24, GNA - The management of Passion for Needy, a charitable organisation, at the weekend donated food items worth GH¢8,700 to flood victims in the Ashaiman Municipality.

The items included 300 bags of rice, 20 cartons of tomato ketchup, 21 cartons of cooking oil and 10 cartons of pilchards.

Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, Co-chairperson of Passion for Needy, said the donation was part of the core values of the non-governmental organisation (NGO).

She said since the establishment of the NGO in June 2009, it had made a number of donations to institutions like Nsawam Prisons and payment of hospital bills to detained persons who could not settle their bills.

"We (NGO) were touched by the plight of the affected victims and being each other's keeper, we decided to contribute our widow's mite," she said.

Mr Abu Assam, Chairman of Obakatse Ward Electoral Area who received the items on behalf of the victims, praised the management of Passion for Needy for its concern for the flood victims and urged other organisations to emulate them.

"We are in dire need of medical supplies, cooking utensils and mattresses for the victims because most of them lost all they had laboured for over the years," he said.

Mr Assam said although 17 persons had been officially declared dead, the number could be higher.
