Parents urged to supplement teachers’ efforts

A board member of Marian Preparatory School, has emphasized the need for parents to supplement the efforts of teachers in the education and up-bringing of their children.

Mrs. Grace Asa Botwe made the call when he addressed staff, pupils and a cross-section of parents at a passing-out ceremony of kindergarten pupils of the School at Nanakese in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, as a guest of honour.

She entreated teachers and parents to develop in children, the values of integrity, honesty, respect for others and hard work.

She advised children to be obedient and respectful to their parents, guardians and all people they meet. They should also speak the truth at all times and never take anything that does not belong to them.

To parents and guardians, she urged them to be good friends to their children and endeavor to spend quality time with them, adding that, parents should sacrifice some personal comforts in order to be able to provide for their children’s education.

Madam Marian Twumwaa Botwe, proprietor of the school, recounted that the pre-school educational institution was started in 2006 with an enrolment of six children, and that today the institution has over 150 children at the pre-school level, and 160 pupils in the primary department, with eight and four non-teaching staff.

According to her, the school’s moral education programmes were designed to instil in its pupils the values of truth, love, good conduct and non-violence, to enable them to grow up as patriotic and responsible citizens.

Madam Twumwaa Botwe noted that the pre-school stage is the most critical period of a child’s education, because they are in the formative age, and parental involvement in their upbringing is the key to the success of every child’s education.

Other board members, Mrs. Mercy Akrofi and Nana Asante Yamoah Afrifa, whose optional statements corroborated, appealed to Ghana Cement Limited (GHACEM), to assist the school with cement to enable the school to complete its Junior High School (JHS) project.

She also urged the VALCO Fund to provide the school with a bus, to help convey children from the villages to offer them better education.
