Parents urged to register their families under NHIS

Kyebi Apapam (ER), Aug. 18, GNA - Mr Maxwell Appiah-Korang, East Akyem Municipal Information Officer, has called on parents to register their families under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable their children have access to affordable and better health care.

Mr Appiah-Korang made the call at a public forum and film show at Kyebi-Apapam organized by East Akyem Municipal Office of Information Service Department (ISD) to explain Government policies and programmes to the people.

He said most of the programmes initiated by Government such as NHIS, Capitation Grant, Free Maternal Care for pregnant women, School Feeding Programme and Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Project (LEAP), were policies aimed to improve the living standards of the people and advised them to take advantage of them.

Mr Appiah-Korang called on chiefs and queenmothers to ensure all pregnant women in their communities attended anti-natal clinics to help reduce maternal and infant mortality in the country.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency, Mr Appiah-Korang, who is also District Information Officer for Fanteakwa, said similar programmes had been organized in 40 communities and towns.

Some of the towns are, Segyimase, Asiakwa, Aheniase and Maase in East Akyem Municipal Area and Begoro, Feyiase, Ahumem, Oboohu, Owusukrom, Onuku and Abooso in Fanteakwa District.
