Parents urged to help wards use leisure hours profitably

Obuasi, Aug 7, GNA - Mrs Beatrice Boakye-Ansah Prempeh, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, has appealed to parents to encourage their children to accept the concept of library instead of wasting their leisure hours on unhealthy and unprofitable activities. "I entreat parents to take up the challenge of assisting their wards to benefit from their leisure hours. The hours used for picking up lifestyles such as wee-smoking, sexual activities and other anti-social practices can be used on books", she said.

Mrs Prempeh said this in a speech read for her at the second Open Day of Jesus Cares International School at Obuasi. The Day was organized to raise funds for the school's library project. "There is a need for parents to encourage their children to befriend the library since it was a place where all the entertainment children want are stored."

Madam Amina Achiaa, the proprietor, expressed gratitude to the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for supporting the development of the school.

She said the completion of the library would help improve the academic performance of the school and appealed to organizations and individuals to assist to equip the library. Mr Bright D. Yimbila, the PTA Chairman, said though the school had grown from its modest beginning, there were lot of facilities that were lacking and appealed to parents to continue with their resolve to offer quality education for their wards. 07 Aug 07
