Parents urged to educate their children

how to cross the road

Winneba (C/R), Feb. 08, GNA- Ms Catherine Hamilton, Central Regional Co-ordinator of National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), has appealed to parents to educate their children on how to cross the road to avoid being knocked down by vehicles. Ms Hamilton speaking to Ghana News Agency in Winneba on Friday said these were some of the measures being instituted by the Commission to make roads in the country "a life track and not a death trap". She advised parents not to allow their children to sit on the front seat or on their lap on the front seat because children are much safer in the rear seat. Ms Hamilton advised drivers to avoid over-speeding, over loading and unnecessary over taking to avoid accidents and asked passengers to report offending drivers to the nearest police station for prosecution. She appealed to motorcyclists to always wear crash helmets, avoid jumping queue and abide by driving rules. Ms Hamilton urged pedestrians to cross roads at the designated or marked points and ensure safety before crossing to help reduce accidents. 08 Feb. 08
