Parents, support government in education - Owusu Ankomah

Papa Owusu Ankomah, MP for Sekondi, has underscored the need for parents and guardians to complement government's efforts at providing quality education to pupils and students of the country.

He noted that, though education should be free, parents and guardians must endeavour to provide the basic necessities for their wards in order for them to give off their best since the government alone cannot shoulder all the responsibilities.

Papa Owusu Ankomah was presenting 700 pieces of dual desks worth GH¢100.00 to the various schools in his Sekondi constituency at a ceremony in Sekondi.

Five hundred pieces out of the furniture is going to selected primary schools while the kindergartens get 200, adding that, the money used to purchase the furniture was his share from the GetFund.

The MP explained that, though he supports free education, major players like the parents must take up vital responsibilities to build up knowledge of their wards.

Papa Owusu Ankomah entreated parents and guardians not to take advantage of the government's capitation grant and free education to shirk their responsibilities and place the fate of their own wards in an unfortunate situation.

He advised them to monitor progress of their wards in schools and the communities, saying that though the provision of school furniture was the duty of the state, parents must repair them when they wear out.

Mr Ato Bruce, an Assistant Director of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Education Directorate received the gifts and promised their judicious use to prolong their lifespan.**
