Pabieman pleads for good roads

Nii Pabie I, Chief of Pabieman in the Ga West Municipality, has called on the government to renovate the deplorable road linking Nsawam to communities in the Domeabra-Obom Constituency.

“If nothing is done about the road within a year, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not deceive itself that the constituency is its stronghold,” he warned.

Nii Pabie made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the weekend during the celebration of the Homowo festival of the chiefs and people at Pabieman, near Kofi Kwei in the Greater Accra Region.

The annual Homowo means hooting at hunger and is celebrated by Ga-Dangme descendants in the region, who cook the traditional meal “Kpokpoi” with maize flour mixed with palm-oil, eat with palm-nut soup and sprinkle some in the ancestral homes.

Pabie claimed that the ruling NDC had deceived the community for far too long and if government fails to fix the road the people would decide the destiny of the party in the 2016 general election.

Like the plight of almost all the communities within the municipality, Nii Pabie said Pabieman lacks good roads, public places of convenience, potable water, vocational centre, among other amenities.

He appealed to non-governmental and philanthropic organisations to come to the aid of the communities within the municipality to build clinics and a senior high school that would be nearer to the people to avoid the difficulties of travelling far for such services.

Naa Pabie I, Queenmother of Pabieman appealed to chiefs within the municipality to forge unity of purpose to speak with the government to provide them with their needs.

She pleaded with President John Dramani Mahama to visit the area in order to become acquainted with the plight of the people, saying; “As a father please ensure that you share your time equally among your children to know their difficulties.”

Naa Pabie alleged that some of the benefits of the national cake like free fertilizers to farmers do not reach the farmers in the area, and urged the authorities to turn their focus on the chiefs and people.
