In 2017 the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) received a total of 577 complaints from residents in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

The complaints were against the Ghana Water Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana about their services.

Out of the number 545 were against ECG and 32 against the Ghana Water Company Limited.

The PURC was able to resolve 537 out of the 545 cases against the ECG leaving 8 unresolved.

In the case of the Ghana Water Company Limited all 32 cases were resolved.

For ECG the cases were mostly about credit adjustment while that of the Ghana Water Company Limited was about continuous and ignored pipe bursts.

Western Region Public Relations Officer of the ECG, Philip Osei Bonsu in an interview with GhanaWeb, said the number of cases resolved is only an indication of a company ready to serve its customers to the best of their abilities.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana has over 350,000 customers and the numbers keep growing every moment so if in a year we record 547 complain from customers that is a huge improvement on our part in giving our customers the best service “, he revealed.

“Going forward will look at pruning the number of complaints down”, he assured.
