PSC Tema Ship Yard in a near fire disaster

Tema, Dec. 28, GNA - The Dry-docks of PSC Tema Ship Yard near Tema Fishing Harbour nearly experienced another fire outbreak around 2.00 pm on Wednesday, December 27. Fortunately, the prompt response of a combined team of firemen brought the fire under control within two hours without any casualty. An eye witness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday that some people were dismantling an old fishing vessel Hilda A that had docked at the Dry-docks for scraps to Steel Companies. He said in the process, there was an ignition followed by a spark of fire resulting in the outbreak.

However, the eye witness said a quick alarm raised brought firemen from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to the scene to put out the fire. When contacted on telephone, Mr Paul Tamakloe, Tema Municipal Fire Officer, confirmed the incident and said the people working on the vessel escaped unhurt. Nearly two years ago, repair works on a vessel around the same spot was engulfed in fire killing 28 people. In another development, a National Fire Service man quenched fire that had razed down a workshop belonging to a spare parts dealer at the industrial area near Mankoadze roundabout at Community Four.
