PPF hails appointment of Dr Spio-Garbrah as Presidential Special Envoy for Reparations

The Pan-African Progressive Front (PPF) has commended Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah on his appointment as Presidential Special Envoy for Reparations, describing the move as a major milestone in Africa’s ongoing struggle for reparative justice and the restoration of dignity and sovereignty to its people.

In a statement issued by its leadership, the PPF said Dr Spio-Garbrah’s long record of service as a statesman, diplomat, scholar and Pan-Africanist qualifies him to advance the reparations agenda across Africa and the global African diaspora.

“His leadership will strengthen the continental and global coordination necessary to ensure that Africa's demand for reparations is pursued with strategic clarity, moral authority and political force,” the statement read.

The Front reaffirmed its solidarity with President John Dramani Mahama and Dr Spio-Garbrah, describing the appointment as central to Africa’s collective pursuit of justice, equity and a redefined world order rooted in historical truth and shared humanity.

The PPF pledged to mobilise political movements, trade unions, youth and women’s groups, as well as diaspora communities across Africa and beyond, to support the growing reparations movement championed by the African Union (AU).

According to the group, Dr Spio-Garbrah’s appointment represents renewed hope for Africa’s unified march toward reparative justice and a Pan-African renaissance.

Humphrey Quaye, Head of the Pan-African Progressive Front, commended Dr Spio-Garbrah for accepting the role and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to the cause.

“Long live the struggle for Reparations and African Unity. Long live the Pan-African Progressive Front,” Quaye declared.

The PPF emphasised that reparations remain a critical component of Africa’s quest for justice, equity and self-determination.

It said Dr Spio-Garbrah’s appointment marks a new chapter in the continent’s coordinated effort to secure reparative justice for centuries of enslavement, exploitation and colonial domination.

The organisation also reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with Dr Spio-Garbrah and the African Union to advance the reparations agenda and mobilize continental and global support for the initiative.

Highlighting its guiding slogan, “Mobilising People, Emancipating Minds,” the PPF said it remains committed to empowering African people and promoting Pan-African unity.

“The appointment of Dr Spio-Garbrah is a testament to Africa’s growing determination to seek justice and reclaim its rightful place in global affairs,” the statement concluded.

The PPF expressed confidence that through collaboration, advocacy, and education, Africans can achieve their full potential and build a brighter, more equitable future for generations to come.
