The Pentecost Senior High School (PENSEC) in Koforidua in the Eastern Region has celebrated its silver jubilee in a colourful grand durbar that brought together church leaders, education officials, alumni, students, and the wider community.

The event, held on the school’s campus on Saturday, September 27, 2025, was marked by vibrant cultural performances, music by the school’s regimental band, and captivating cadet displays, all under the theme: “Nurturing Future Leaders of Excellence and Virtue: The PENSEC Story.”

The Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University, Apostle Professor Kwabena Agyapong Kodua, who served as the Guest of Honour, praised the vision that birthed PENSEC 25 years ago.

Delivering his address, he noted that the founders were driven not just by a need for infrastructure, but by a higher calling to create an institution that would raise leaders anchored in both academic excellence and moral virtue.

“When our fathers established this school in 2000, they dreamt of raising a torch of Christ that would shine through academic distinction. Today, PENSEC stands as proof that when the Church steps into education, nations are transformed,” Apostle Prof Kodua said.

From humble beginnings with 110 students, PENSEC now has a population of more than 2,000 and has risen from a Grade “D” to a Grade “A” Category B school.

Its consistent performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and strong university pass rates, he added, testify to discipline, determination, and the school’s commitment to its founding principles.

Representing the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, also commended the school for becoming a model of holistic formation. She said PENSEC’s approach to education demonstrates that true excellence cannot be separated from character.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, in her goodwill message, also applauded the Church of Pentecost, the school’s leadership, staff, alumni, and parents for their sacrifices over the past 25 years.

She described PENSEC as a “center of leadership and a beacon of hope” in the Eastern Region and beyond, stressing that its graduates have become symbols of diligence, discipline, and moral rectitude.

She urged current students to commit fully to their studies and emulate their predecessors, while calling on staff to sustain the school’s high standards.

The Minister further encouraged parents to be responsible partners in their children’s education, assuring the government’s continued support for PENSEC’s growth.

The Headmaster of PENSEC, Elder Atta Gyamfi, recounted the journey of the school and acknowledged the pivotal role played by The Church of Pentecost, the government, and individual benefactors.

He highlighted the sacrifices of past leaders and teachers and lauded alumni who continue to contribute resources, equipment, and mentorship opportunities to the school.

Yet, he also drew attention to urgent needs, including the completion of a boys’ dormitory, more staff accommodation, and a modern assembly hall.

“For PENSEC to sustain her story of transformation, we must tackle these infrastructural gaps,” he appealed.

Beyond infrastructure, speakers at the jubilee durbar stressed the importance of preserving the school’s spiritual and moral foundations.

Apostle Prof Kodua warned against social ideologies that attempt to erase God from education, saying such moves risk undermining the very values that keep society stable.

“Knowledge without character is dangerous, but knowledge rooted in Christ-like values is powerful. That balance makes PENSEC unique,” he noted, adding that PENSEC graduates at Pentecost University arrive “confident, principled, and grounded.”

As the anniversary climaxed with cultural displays and joyful thanksgiving, the underlying message was clear: PENSEC’s story is not just one of educational achievement, but of faith, vision, and resilience.

Both the Eastern Regional Minister and Apostle Prof. Kodua underscored the importance of stronger partnerships between government, church, parents, alumni, and the wider society to safeguard the gains made over the past 25 years.

“You are not just celebrating 25 years of a school,” Apostle Prof. Kodua concluded. “You are celebrating 25 years of a vision that has blossomed across generations. May the next 25 shine even brighter.”
