PBC offers support for effective research

Accra, Dec. 29, GNA- The College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences of the University of Ghana, Legon, and the Faculty of Agriculture, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, on Wednesday received cheques of 15 million cedis each from the Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC) to enable them to equip their computer laboratories.

PBC, in response to an earlier appeal by the institutions decided to support the two institutions to purchase computers to enhance agricultural research.

Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Boakye, Managing Director of PBC, who presented the cheques, urged the institutions to expand research into cocoa production to help improve upon the quality of seedlings for propagation.

He assured the institutions of further support to ensure improved research for national development.

Prof. Anna Barnes, Acting Provost, College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, thanked the company for the support and said it would go a long way to help the college improve upon its work.

Prof. Daniel Okai, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, KNUST, said the faculty, which had only one computer, would buy more.

He said students of the faculty had to share computers with their colleagues in other faculties, saying this hampered research. He also thanked PBC for the support and appealed to other stakeholders and organisations for assistance.
