Over 56,613 people have registered with NHIS in Asante-Akim South

Ofoase (Ash), Aug 27, GNA - The subscription of the Asante-Akim South District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (DMHIS) now stands at 56,613 representing 58 per cent of the district's total population. The scheme has so far paid 950,000 Ghana cedis as claims, as against 185,000 Ghana cedis premium collected from subscribers, with the National Health Insurance Authority (MHIA) supporting the scheme with 1,950,000 Ghana cedis.

Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, the Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive, who disclosed this when he toured some communities in the district, said the scheme had paid 40,000 Ghana cedis as claims as at June this year and entreated the people to register with the scheme. He further disclosed that 1,437 pregnant women had been registered in the district to enable them have free access to maternal health care, adding that the scheme had come to stay.

The DCE observed that the NHIS was the best health policy ever introduced by any government in the history of the nation, and urged Ghanaians to embrace it to ensure its sustenance.

Mr Boakye-Yiadom also enumerated a number of development projects being executed by the assembly to improve the livelihood of the people and called for their support.

He noted that most roads in the district had been awarded on contract, adding, the electrification projects in Amantia, Muronaim, Ofoase, Odubi and Komeso would be completed before the end of the year. He implored the people to discard the notion that the Member of Parliament was responsible for the execution of development projects, saying, her share of the common fund was only five per cent, which was inadequate to satisfy the needs of the entire district.

The DCE urged the people to desist from accusing the MP of not being available since she was also a minister of state and charged them to direct their grievances to the assembly instead.
