The Resident Representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ghana, Anna Lena Sabroso-Wasserfall, has highlighted the foundation’s continued commitment to democracy, political participation and human rights in the country.
Speaking during the official launch and anniversary celebration of KAS’s 60th year in Ghana on October 27, 2026, Sabroso-Wasserfall said the foundation’s work has evolved over the decades, but its core objectives have remained consistent.
According to Sabroso-Wasserfall, KAS has remained focused on strengthening democracy, political participation, human rights, the rule of law, and freedom.
“Our work changed a lot over the last 60 years. So the journey has been one of ever-evolving changes, ever-evolving partnerships, but it has also been very consistent in what we actually wanted to achieve.
“It’s ever-changing, but it’s also very stable and very constant at the same time, working towards strengthening democracy, political participation, human rights, rule of law, freedom – everything the foundation stands for,” she said.
Sabroso-Wasserfall also highlighted the foundation’s efforts to create platforms where young people can participate in public discussions and engage with political and government leaders.
She explained that such platforms provide young people with opportunities to express their opinions, raise concerns, and interact with people they might not ordinarily have access to.
“We just open spaces for young people to actually come and be heard. They have a space where they can voice their opinions, where they can voice their concerns, where they also have the chance to interact with people who they normally might not get a chance to interact with from politics, from government, from political institutions,” she added.
She noted that these dialogue platforms, alongside KAS’s other initiatives, form an important part of the foundation’s contribution to youth development and civic participation in Ghana.
The anniversary marks six decades of KAS’s presence in Ghana, with the foundation reflecting on its partnerships and contributions to the country’s democratic and institutional development.
