The chief and elders of Osu, a suburb of Accra, on Friday lifted the ban on drumming and noise-making in the area to pave way for the celebration of the Homowo Festival.

The three weeks ban, which was one of the rites that preceded the celebration of the festival, was to enable the chiefs and elders to pray to the gods for abundant harvest.

The Homowo Festival, to wit “hooting at hunger,” is celebrated by the people of the Ga-Dangme Traditional Area.

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, the Paramount Chief and President of the Osu Traditional Council, briefing the Ghana News Agency, expressed gratitude to the people for observing the ban peacefully.

He asked them to continue to maintain the peace and lend their support to the Council to provide the necessary development to improve their living standards.
