Orphanage International appeals for funds

Accra, July 29, GNA - Orphanage International Ministries (OIM) a Non Governmental Organisation catering for the educational needs of orphans on Saturday appealed to organisations and the public for financial assistance to help improve on its sponsorship package. The OIM, which is currently sponsoring 25 orphans selected from the various Orphanages in the country.

It had so far received assistance from Cal Bank to award scholarship to 40 orphans to Senior Secondary and Tertiary levels and the Barclays Bank to support OIM games.

Pastor Samuel Ludwig Aferi, President of the IOM said the organisation needed funds to fully support these children to become responsible adults to benefit the society.

Speaking at a fund raising and awards ceremony for the hardworking members and sponsors of the NGO, he said, one avenue it was using to support these children was to train them into good singers and to be able to use musical instruments to touch lives, while they generated some money for their upkeep.

He said part of the funds would be used to purchase additional musical instruments for the children and a vehicle for the smooth running of the NGO. Pastor Nicholas Adjei of the Charity Baptist Church expressed the hope that more organisations would assist the OIM to help mentor these children. Awards were given to hardworking staff from the Social Welfare Department and Orphanages and Sponsors of the Organisation at the ceremony, which generated two million cedis to assist its programmes. 29 July 06
