Only 29.8 per cent of registered voters checked names in Gomoa

Apam (C/R), Aug 25, GNA - Some 10,710 registered voters checked their names during the just ended Exhibition of Voters Register in the two districts of Gomoa East and Gomoa West.

The figure represented 29.8 per cent of the eligible voters of 125,899 in the two districts, Mr Stephen Bertino, Gomoa West Electoral Officer, told the GNA in an interview.

The register was opened from August 9 to August 15.

He said those who checked their names were made up of 5,194 males and 5,516 females.

Mr Bertino said the register comprised 109,682 names of voters who registered since inception of the Fourth Republic to 2008 and 16,217 of those who registered this year.

Mr Bertino explained that the two districts did joint exercise because facilities in Gomoa East, which is a new district, were not up to date.

Mr Moses Tia Wuni, who has been posted to the Gomoa East as the Electoral Officer, appealed to political parties to take interest in the exhibition of the voters' register to prevent misunderstandings at polling stations during elections.
