Offinso North MP hands over school to community

Mr Augustine Collins Ntim, Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso North, has formally handed over a completed community senior high school to the Presby Mission.

The school, Wiafe Akenten Senior High School, was established at the initiative of the MP, with the support of the traditional rulers in the area.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, the MP said the project was financed with his share of the MPs Common Fund, and through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (Getfund).

Mr Ntim said the school is the second senior high school established since he became the representative of the people of the area in the last seven years.

He commended the chiefs and people for supporting the project with communal labour and building materials, explaining that “the idea was to bring in communal participation and sense of community ownership.

“For years, there has been increasing enrolment, but providing the needed space was the problem. I believe the establishment of the school is a way of using education to develop the human resources to address the problem of poverty; using education as a major instrument to tackle poverty.”

“That was my motivation to have the schools established,” Mr Ntim said and urged the people in the area to encourage their wards to patronise the school.
