Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo is the recognized chief of Akropong - Akyeamehene

The Akyeamehene for Okuapeman, Nana Aduna II has insisted that Akropong has only a chief and not two.

He told Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that the only recognized ruler for the town in the Eastern region is Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo and not any other person.

There was heavy police presence at Akropong in the Eastern Region following the installation of two separate chiefs to fill one vacant stool over the weekend.

Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo and Nana Kese, both from the Sakyeabea Royal Family, were reportedly installed as chiefs by Queen Mother Okuapemhemaa Nana Nketia Obobi and Baamuhene Nana Afari Bampoe, respectively.

However, commenting on the issue, the Akyeamehene stressed that they do not recognize any other chief than Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo.

The Okuapemanhene stool has been vacant for two years after the death of the late Oseadeyo Addo Dankwah III.

Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo, is a 63-year-old retired journalist and businessman. According to Akuapem customs and traditions, before one is enstooled a paramount chief of the traditional area, the person is supposed to go through a four-stage process of nomination, selection, enstoolment and finally, the installation.
