Nana Effah Opinamang III, Chief of Obomeng has instituted free evening classes for school children between the ages of six and ten years to inculcate into them the habit of learning after school hours.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kwahu Obomeng in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region, the Chief said the initiative was to help reduce immoral behaviours and unnecessary loitering around of the children in the evenings.

He said the traditional authorities decided to start with children at the basic level because that was where effective learning starts and have therefore engaged professional teachers to ensure the success of the programme.

Nana Opinamang III said the exercise was being carried out in few areas but would be extended to other communities within Obomeng for other children to also benefit.

He expressed satisfaction about how the children and parents have embraced the programme adding that, with time, he would include students up to the Junior High School level to improve upon their performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Nana Opinamang III assured of his relentless efforts to continue lobbying with philanthropists and non- governmental organizations to support the provision of quality education to his people especially those at the tender age.

The chief, therefore urged parents to also provide educational materials and other domestic needs for their wards to secure their future.
