Nov. polls: 2nd Lady calls for political tolerance

The Second Lady of Ghana Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has appealed to the people of Western region not to allow politics to divide them, as the days of the general election draws closer. She said political seasons were characterized by issues that can set families, ethnic groups and religions apart and turn people against each other.

She said: “the people of the region must unite for the development of the region towards peace, unity and accelerated socio-economic development of the region.”

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur said this on Tuesday when she donated for the second time quantities of medical equipment and educational materials to the Axim Government hospital and some selected schools in the Nzema East Municipality in the Western region.

This she said was part of her educational reform agenda by encouraging school children to read.The beneficiaries’ schools were the Roman catholic JHS in Axim, Manye Academy ,Mpatim JHS ,Roman Catholic school and the (Gwira Banso ) all in the Nzema east Municipality.

She appealed to citizens of the Western Region not to allow partisan politics to reduce the peaceful communal cohesion in the area into hatred, acrimony and conflicts since we all have one Ghana.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur said what is key in the region is uniting for development, since the region has a lot of natural resources that can be tapped when they come together as one and focus on the development of the region.

She also entreated the management of the hospital to take good care of the items in order to increase their lifespan and improve health delivery.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur said as part of her effort to help take care of the needs of people in hospitals, in her owns small was donating by adding to what government has being doing over the years, so decided to donate the medical equipments and supplies to deprived health facilities as her widows mite.

The Second Lady said she was happy to make the presentation towards helping improving the health and educational status of the people in the area and also advised the teachers and health workers to continue to dedicate and work hard for the people of the area.

The Second Lady commended the hospital management and staff of hospital for the good job that they are doing and encouraged them to do more to ensure quality healthcare for the country. And was still committed in helping to raise awareness about the critical maternal issues in the country,
Some of the items were beds, mattresses, crutches, Zima frames, trolleys, theatre equipment wheel chairs, safety boxes, syringes, walking racks, among others.

She said some of the beds should be given to the Onzaeyeye community in the Nzema East District ,a promise she made to them this year when she commissioned the newly built Chip Compound financed by Ghana Rubber Estates Limited.

Mrs. Amissah-Arthur lauded the people of Nzema for taking education serious and seeing its importance compared to some years, so the need for them to take education serious in order to get meaningful employment.

The Medical Officials thanked the Second Lady and said in spite of all the challenges that they face in those areas they really appreciate the efforts put in by the Second Lady towards quality healthcare delivery in the country.

And that they should continue to do their best in providing good health services for the country.

She was accompanied by Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Regional Minister and the Deputy Regional Minister, Mr Kow Gyan.
