Northerners asked to concentrate on human resource development

Bongo, (UE), Jan 22, GNA- Citizens from the Upper West Upper East and Northern Regions (northerners) have been asked to concentrate on human resource development since the area does not have much natural resources. Mr. Albert Abongo, a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo Constituency, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the only way the three Northern Regions could progress rapidly was through education, a major component of human resource base. He urged parents to send their children, especially the girl child to school since they would end up performing menial jobs if they were not able to acquire any education.

Mr Abongo expressed regret that some parents withdrew their children from school and engaged them in farming and small scale mining adding that some of the children travelled to the Southern part of the country to do menial jobs.

The NP said he would use a chunk of the MP Common Fund to assist brilliant but needy students to enable them go to school up to the tertiary level. Mr. Abongo said "I have also invested much of my MP Common Fund in building of more educational infrastructure in my constituency." He appealed to government to continue to support flood victims in the three northern regions with food items to avert hunger.
