Non-performing teachers to be sanctioned

Odoyefe (Ash), Aug 20, GNA - Mr Mohammed Boakye-Agyeman, Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, has warned that, teachers in the municipality, whose performance and commitment to the job is found to be unsatisfactory would face punitive sanctions. This comes in the wake of growing public concern about the poor attitude to work by some teachers, which was adversely affecting academic performance of school pupils in the municipality.

Mr Boakye-Agyeman was responding to complaints by parents at Odoyefe near Asante-Juaben about the unacceptable behaviour of teachers in the community. They accused the teachers of absenteeism, lateness and alcoholism, and that, through such bad habits, they were ruining the future of the children.

The MCE, who was in the area as part of his tour to familiarize himself with the problems faced by the people said the assembly would not allow offending teachers to get away with morally and ethically reprehensible behaviour. "Any such teacher who did not reform would be forced by the assembly to ask for transfer, an open release or have his or her salary embargoed," he said

Mr Boakye-Agyeman assured people in the community of the assembly's resolve to ensure that they were provided with the needed social amenities "to make things better for them." Mr Akwasi Ntim, Assembly member for Ofoase-Abetenim, appealed to the Government to provide the area with a health facility to reduce the stress they go through, when they fall sick. The bad nature of the road and the lack of electricity were among the problems they want addressed. The MCE later toured Besease and Abesewa communities.
