Non-performing contractors to be sanctioned-DCE

Bogoso (W/R), May 24, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, District Chief Executive (DCE), of Prestea-Huni Valley, said the assembly has decided to take punitive measures against road contractors who would engage in shoddy work in the area. He said "any contractor who does shoddy work or works far behind project completion schedule would be sanctioned." Mr Ayensu said the measures would include termination of contracts and black-listing of affected companies on the list of registered construction firms in the District. He was speaking at the first general meeting of Prestea-Huni Valley District Assembly at Bogoso. Mr Ayensu said the newly created district could not solely rely on the District Assemblies Common Fund to implement its development. He said the assembly would solicit assistance from its development partners and mining companies operating within the district. Mr Ayensu called on the central government to give the assembly additional financial and technical support to enable the assembly to firmly stand on its feet. He said the assembly would spend GH¢21,200.00 on 270 students over a period of four years to enable them complete their education. Mr Ayensu expressed regret that despite government's huge investment in the education sector, there was corresponding improvement in the performances of school children in the area. He said the assembly would continue to support Parent-Teacher Associations and School Management Committees to enable them to play a complimentary role in the supervision and monitoring of teaching and learning. Mr Ayensu said the Assembly would collaborate with the Western Regional Directorate of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency and to solve water and sanitation problems. He said the assembly has proposed the establishment of an oil palm plantation in fulfilment of the President's Special Initiative on oil palm to create jobs for the people. Mr Albert Kwaku Obbin, Member of Parliament for Prestea-Huni Valley constituency, called on heads of departmental in the districts to work with the assembly towards the development of the area.
