No new schools without accommodation facilities - Director

Grumakrom (B/A), Oct. 29, GNA- The Ghana Education Service (GES) will not approve the opening of new basic schools unless the people are able to provide infrastructure and accommodation facilities for the pupils and teachers.

Mr Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, said this when he addressed the people of Grumakrom to study conditions in the school.

His visit followed complaints and requests from teachers in the area to be transferred for lack of appropriate school structure and accommodation.

Mr Agyeman-Badu expressed grave concern about lack of commitment of the people of Grumakrom towards the education of their children as they could not re-roof the school building, which leaked every time it rained.

A parent has voluntarily offered his house to be used temporarily by the school.

The three teachers serving in the school commuted from Nkoranza to the town daily since there was no accommodation for them in the town. Mr Agyeman-Badu said if the people did not rehabilitate the school block, the district directorate would close the school down. Mr Andrews Franklin Effah, Assembly Member for the area, called on the people to rehabilitate the block to enhance teaching and learning.
