No hydrant in Gomoa - Fire Officer

Apam (C/R), April 28, GNA - There is no water hydrant in the whole of the Gomoa District, Mr Mark Awotwe-Quaye, Operations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, has said. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Apam, he said Fire Tenders on emergency call had to go to Winneba, a distance of about 20 kilo meters to draw water from a hydrant.

Mr Awotwe-Quaye said the only hydrant at Gomoa Onyadze, which served the area, was locked about a year ago.

He stated that even though a directive from the National Fire Service Council for stations to submit requests for the installation of water hydrants was complied with nothing had been heard about it. The Operations Officer said several appeals to the Ghana Water Company make Gomoa Onyadze water hydrant operational had not yielded any result.

The southern part of the District is prone to bush fires and there is the need for readiness at all times in case of any eventuality, Mr Awotwe-Quaye stated.
