The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has warned traders and business operators around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to evacuate the area voluntarily to avoid losses.
Public Relations Officer for the KMA, Henrietta Afia Konadu, confirmed in an interview with OTEC News that no further extension will be granted.
The evacuation operation, initially scheduled for February, was extended to April to give traders additional time to relocate voluntarily.
According to Konadu, the exercise targets unauthorized structures, containers, food joints, shops, and other temporary installations around the stadium to sanitise and improve the area. She stressed that the planned evacuation and demolition will proceed once the April 6, 2026, deadline expires.
Reacting to claims that GH¢1,500 is being collected to stop the eviction, Konadu warned traders not to fall victim to the scam.
She described the allegations as false and clarified that neither the Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi, nor the Assembly has authorised anyone to collect money to halt the operation.
The April 6, 2026, extension was granted following interventions by the Regional Minister, Amakomhene, and Dadiesoabahene, who requested additional time for traders to secure alternative locations.
Konadu urged traders to take advantage of the extension and ensure they relocate voluntarily before the new deadline.
