No cattle killed at Agogo – Youth

News making the rounds that some 40 cattle belonging to Fulani nomads have been killed at Agogo in the Ashanti Region following an alleged shoot-to-kill order is false and must be ignored, Frank Gyimah, Agogo Youth Association secretary, has said.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Thursday January 26, he said: “Where is the evidence that some cattle have been shot and killed in the so-called Operation Shoot-to-Kill? This is falsehood being peddled by some people that their cattle have been killed in a shoot-to-kill operation.

“This is not true. Where in Agogo have 40 cattle been killed?”

Meanwhile, Professor Osman Barrow, chairman of the Fulani community in Ghana, however said the killing of the cattle actually happened, leading to the murder of one Fulani, whose body is currently at the Agogo Hospital mortuary.

He said: “Where the Fulanis are operating now is far from any farmland and so I don’t see the reason why the police vehicles will go to these areas and start shooting indiscriminately against some people with their animals? It is a very unfortunate situation that reached me yesterday and today.

“The killing happened and it has been reported to the police. I spoke to the police commander there…three days ago and told him about this issue. The body of the Fulani killed was deposited at the Agogo mortuary yesterday. This is clear evidence the killing is practically happening and the police have got the report and the body of the victim is lying in the mortuary and so how will someone come and deny this thing. It is hypocrisy.

“All that I know is that there are some shootings against their (Fulanis’) animals and the animals were killed and one person was also killed yesterday. The cattle killed were taken for consumption and [also] sold in the market.”
