Nkoranze Assembly collects more revenue

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 28, GNA - Nkoranza South District Assembly generated GHC 75,952.36 internally as at the end of June and this figure represented 26.5 percent of the projected internal revenue of GHC 286,634.00 for the year.

Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, District Chief Executive, said this at the assembly's first meeting of the fourth session at Nkoranza on Thursday.

He said the assembly had received the first quarter allocation of GHC 154,335.00 of its share of the common fund. Mr. Agyekum appealed to the assembly members to help step up revenue mobilization since over-reliance on the common fund for development projects was not the best. He said several district assemblies in the region were heavily indebted to contractors but Nkoranza South was one of two districts in the region that was not indebted to any contractor. The DCE said with the 2008 general election over it was incumbent on the assembly members to be united and cooperate to help uplift the standard of living of the people.

Mr. Agyekum said projects listed for the year included the construction of Nkoranza Community Learning and Resource Centre, three unit classroom blocks for Dassagwa, Kyerefe, Camp and Apesika communities.

The district assembly will also build two-bedroom semi-detached teachers' quarters at Nkoranza Technical School, as well as three unit children's ward at St. Theresa's Hospital.

He said the assembly was sponsoring 35 students made up of 25 girls and 10 boys to this year's Science and Technology and Mathematics and Education Clinic (STME) and would revive its sponsorship policy. Mr. Agyekum urged the District Directorate of Education to strengthen its supervising role and that the assembly was making efforts to get a classroom and a school bus and truck for Nkoranza Technical School.

The DCE said the mutual health insurance scheme was on course and the number of registered clients was increasing and that as at May 82,405 clients had registered.

Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, advised the assembly members to unite and initiate projects that would bring remarkable improvement in the lives of the people and advised them to monitor activities of contractors to avoid shoddy work. 28 Aug 09
