Nkoranza South NPP elects new executives

Nkoranza (B/A), Nov. 5, GNA - Members of the Nkoranza South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its delegates conference at Nkoranza on Wednesday and elected a nine-member executive to oversee the affairs of the party for the next four years. Mr Eric Boateng, a 42-year-old official of the Nkoranza-Fiagya Rural Bank was elected chairman, polling 63 votes to beat Major Derick Oduro (Rtd), who obtained 62 votes, Mr Osei Kofi maintained his position as the First Vice-Chairman, while Mr Kwadwo Asumah got the post of Second Vice-Chairman. Mr Osei Fosu became the new Secretary and Mr Abdul Nash, Assistant Secretary.

Mr Benson B. Acheampong retained the position of Organiser, while Mr Kofi Opoku was elected youth organizer, Nana Hayford Affum, Treasurer and Miss Judith Adjei, Women's Organiser. Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South and Deputy Minister of Education and Sports commended the delegates for conducting the elections in a disciplined and peaceful manner.

Mr Amporfo-Twumasi stressed the need for the executives to unite and cooperate with one another so they could fight with one accord to let the party win both the presidential and parliamentary, come 2008 elections.

He urged the youth of the party in the area to be self-disciplined, law-abiding and show respect for authority to avoid fallen prey to the long arms of the law in the country. The District Electoral Officer, Mr Kofi Frimpong, who led a team from his outfit for the elections, appreciated the maturity, comportment and the disciplined manner exhibited by the delegates Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief executive (DCE) called on the members of the party to rally behind the executives and offer the necessary support to enable them work effectively towards the 2008 general elections.

He stressed the need for the leaders of the party in both the North and South constituencies to jointly work hard and mobilize more people to vote for the party in the impending 2008 elections. On behalf of the new executives, Mr Boateng thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them and gave the assurance that with their support the executives would perform to their expectation
