The Ningo-Prampram Municipal Health Directorate has called on stakeholders to collaborate in implementing measures to reduce adolescent pregnancies in the municipality.

Patience Ami Mamattah, the Ningo-Prampram Municipal Director of Health Services, made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

Madam Mamattah said it was important for stakeholders to pay greater attention to adolescent health and reproductive issues, to help address the growing challenge.

She explained that the directorate was working with traditional authorities, including queen mothers, chief fishermen, and other stakeholders in the two traditional areas of the municipality, Prampram and Ningo, to guide adolescents, particularly girls.

She urged parents to support their daughters by providing them with their basic needs, including sanitary materials, to prevent them from depending on men and boys for survival.

Madam Mamattah also called on traditional authorities to support community sensitisation on teenage pregnancy and its negative consequences on individuals and society.

She further encouraged churches, mosques, and other religious groups to use their platforms to promote abstinence among adolescents.

The municipal health director advised adolescents to focus on their education or vocational training to prepare for their future.

She expressed optimism that with the collective efforts of stakeholders, the municipality could significantly reduce teenage pregnancy.

Madam Mamattah stated that sexually active adolescents should be encouraged to adopt family planning methods.

Providing statistics on teenage pregnancy in the municipality, she said 533 adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19 were recorded as pregnant in 2025.

She noted that teenage pregnancy remained a growing challenge in the Ningo-Prampram Municipality that deserves all hands-on deck.
