Nine communities in South-Tongu get potable water

Nine communities within the coastal wetland area of the South Tongu District of the Volta Region have been provided with potable water.

The beneficiary communities are Gamenu, Amedorme, Akalove, Adidokpoe, Hawui and Agbletokoe, Azikpoe, Aveta, Atuprakpo and Kedzi.

The project was undertaken by the Centre for Integrated Education and Development (CIED), a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the District Assembly.

The Japanese Government funded the project with GH¢ 325,680.00 and supported by the District Assembly with GH¢ 172,000.00.

Mr. Samuel Mawuko Eworyi, District Chief Executive for South Tongu, at a formal commissioning of the project at Gamanu, expressed gratitude to CIED and the Japanese Government for their support.

He assured the people of the Government’s commitment to providing facilities to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Mr. Eworyi commended CIED and the Japanese Government for complementing Government’s efforts.

He advised the beneficiaries to cultivate the culture of maintenance and to prolong the lifespan of the water system.

Kobby Woyome, Member of Parliament, appealed to the Japanese Government and CIED to, as part of their humanitarian support, help reconstruct roads in the area to make them motorable.

He said the bad nature of the roads, which worsened during the rainy season, made food haulage from the area to market centers difficult.

Mr. Anthony Adanua, Executive Director of CIED, said the water project was the third successful project the CIED had undertaken under the Japanese Government sponsorship.

He expressed the hope that the partnership and relationship with the Japanese Government would continue to enable similar projects reach other communities.
